I am obsessed with "old Hollywood", probably one of the reasons I adore vintage clothing and accessories. Years ago I happened upon a book "Edith Head's Hollywood" at a garage sale because it had the word Hollywood in the title. I read the entire book in two days. What an incredible time Edith Head lived and worked in.
For more than fifty years, Edith Head designed the wardrobes of Hollywood stars, defining cinema style through the Golden Era and into the early 1980s. She won eight Academy Awards, more than any woman in history..........She won her awards designing for the following movies
Olivia de Havilland in The Heiress
Hedy Lamarr in Samson and Delilah
Bette Davis in All About Eve
Elizabeth Taylor in A Place in the Sun
Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday and Sabrina
Lucille Ball in The Facts of Life
Robert Redford and Paul Newman in The Sting
Which costume design is your favorite??
My favourite is Audrey Hepburn's dress in Sabrina--But Audrey's dresses weren't actually by Edith Head, and were by Hubert De Givenchy, but Edith just claimed that they were and won the oscar for it...shame really :/
